Background

Rangatira is an investment holding company with assets of over NZ$130 million. Established in 1937, the Company is now 51% owned by the J R McKenzie Trust with other community and charitable organisations owning about 15% of the shares. The balance of the shareholding is held by various individuals. Our mission is to increase both the capital value of our shares and the dividends paid to our shareholders by investing creatively and competitively.

Over the years, Rangatira has built a portfolio of local and international investments across a wide range of sectors. The Company has pursued a policy of private equity investment in small to medium-sized New Zealand companies, complemented by holdings in a range of publicly listed New Zealand and Australian companies. Investments have been made taking a long-term position in companies that are well founded and well managed with good growth potential.

Rangatira will continue to explore investment opportunities across a range of businesses sectors, always seeking the best possible return on funds over the long term. We will aim to add value to our private equity investments by actively contributing at management and board level, recognising the need to combine high standards of governance with sound management and a clear focus on growth and profitability. With globalisation, we will also explore possible opportunities for investment beyond New Zealand and Australia.
